If you are a big casino table gambler than it's likely at some point you will try craps. In order to play a game like craps you need to understand dice. Once you understand the dice odds and probabilities you will have a much better chance of understanding the game and succeeding when you play.
One thing you may not know is that when you are playing craps you are only allowed to handle the dice with one hand. I know in casino commercials and on television you often see people rolling the dice between their hands and blowing on them. However, in a real casino, at the tables, this sort of behavior is not allowed.
More work goes into the craps dice than you could possibly imagine. They are created with very specific instructions that must be adhered to because they deal with play. In fact, dice are commonly inspected for flaws before they are allowed to be used in casinos gambling. If they did allow people to rub dice together there is a good chance the dice could be damaged. In most casinos the average lifespan of a pair of dice on the table is about eight hours and should those dice fall off the table during that time they are checked before anyone is allowed to use them again. Every die has between one and six pips on every side. If you check each corresponding side and add them together you will always end up with the number seven. Taking into account that each die has six sides and to die Ace are used in play this means that there are 36 combinations that can be used between the numbers of two and 12.
The odds of each combination can be calculated by the number of ways that each number can be made.
• A combination of two or twelve can be created in one way
• A combination of three or eleven can be created in two ways
• A combination of four or ten can be created in three ways
• A combination of five or nine can be created in four ways
• A combination of six or eight can be created in five ways
• A combination of seven can be made six ways
Once you know what the chances are of the number combinations rolled, you can easily determine the odds for that number. For example, let's look at the number seven. The numbers seven can be rolled logically in six different ways. Whether you roll a five and a two or a six and a one does not matter at all. You are looking at the total number and not the combination that created the number.
The number seven can be rolled six different ways. From here you would divide the number six by the number of ways that a number is rolled. Of course, you would change the divisible number based on how many combinations will produce that number. So, if you are figuring the odds for six the divisible number would be five.
Learning dice odds is not very hard to do and it will make game play much easier on you. After all, the more you know about the games you play the better chance you have of walking away a winner! |
